"My sister Riikka planted a new lawn all with her bare hands. She spread the soil on the ground from a cartwheel and watered the soil every day for the entire summer. This project tied her down so totally that she could not come and visit me in the archipelago even once over the summer, something of which the new blades of grass in her lawn served as a constant reminder. The colour of the grass that emerged from the ground during the first growing season was a type of synthetic green. Poppies grew in between the blades of grass. The seed producer had probably decided to add an extra element into the seed mixture so that the slow-growing grass would not look too disappointing. A permanent lawn is softer in colour."
